I love the reunion in this and the next chapter. When Blue Team meets up with John again in Halo Escalation, there isn't really a reunion. They're sort of like "John! It's been awhile. Okay we've got a mission let's go." That's it. Sort of the same when Chief first encounters Spartan IV's in Halo 4, sort of a meh response. I know the II's are battle hardened soldiers, but I figured Chief would give a response better then "Oh hey, new Spartans. That's cool." Oh well, something else Haloid delivers on in a sense.

Samus' reaction here sort of reminds me of a scene in Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters (not sure how into Transformers you are, if at all) where Ultra Magnus is seeing what everybody is doing and he doesn't really get along with them. Then Optimus comes back from a mission and everyone is happy to see him, leaving Ultra Magnus as the odd one out looking on at the scene. I always pictured Samus having something like that in Haloid since I get the feeling that Samus and the Spartans see each other as comrades or friends, but not quite on the terms of brothers or family (at least from Samus' perspective). Considering Samus has lost that stuff multiple times, I know she might be a bit stand offish to make those kinds of connections again.

I'm not sure if readers give you proper credit for these kinds of character moments, but they're some of my favorite parts of Haloid and why I keep coming back to read it every now and again, well done.
